We are thrilled to announce that the Board of Trustees approved the College of Emerging and Collaboratives Studies (CECS) Master of Science degree in Sustainability during their winter meeting. This graduate degree will meet the increasing demand for sustainability professionals in a wide variety of private and public sectors and give learners real-world experience through a signature capstone. It also marks the first graduate-level degree program for CECS.

“The Board of Trustees approval of the CECS Master of Science in Sustainability degree marks another milestone for our college as our first graduate degree,” says Vice Provost and Founding Dean Ozlem Kilic. “This program joins our growing list of innovative, forward-thinking programs in emerging fields and furthers the CECS mission to equip learners from all backgrounds with the skills and knowledge to succeed in the careers of the future. In true CECS fashion, students will be able to forge their own path by choosing from nine concentrations such as Urban Sustainability, Water Management, or Sustainable Technology to personalize their course of study to their unique areas of interest. We want to express our gratitude to the board, campus leadership, and our sustainability curriculum committee for their time and ongoing commitment to the development of this program.”

“This program helps meet the rapidly growing demand for a capstone sustainability degree,” says CECS Faculty Fellow and Director of Environmental Studies Michael McKinney. “It will provide working professionals and recently graduated bachelor’s students with the business and technical skills required to implement and meet sustainability goals in many areas of the private and public sectors.”

The Master of Science in Sustainability degree will be presented to the Tennessee Higher Education Commission for final approval in May. For more information on CECS, or to learn more about this degree program, email [email protected]
