The Master of Science in Sustainability prepares students to meet the exponentially increasing demand for sustainability professionals in industry, academics, and government. This master’s program provides an interdisciplinary curriculum that builds on the wide-ranging expertise of faculty across the university and allows students to customize their course of study to align with their interests and career goals.

Master’s of Sustainability Overview
Sustainability requires an extraordinary degree of interdisciplinary training. The Sustainability master’s program consists of 30 graduate credit hours and allows you to customize your learning by offering concentrations and specializations within the program. Students take three required courses as well as an internship, thesis, or research project then choose two certificates to customize their course of student.
Available certificates include Sustainable Business Practices, Policy & Governance, Community Engagement & Social Justice for Sustainability, Sustainable Development, Urban Sustainability, Sustainable Water Management, Ecological Sustainability, Sustainable Technologies, and Climate Change Mitigation and Adaption.

An introduction to the rapidly emerging study and application of sustainability in all aspects of human society. This includes both technological and behavioral efforts to address, mitigate, and ultimately solve the many challenges facing humanity such as global climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution, environmental justice, and many other obstacles to sustainability.

Sustainability Reporting for Organization
This course covers basic methods for analyzing, writing, and reporting a comprehensive view of an organization’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance. Focus is on providing accurate, transparent, and useful metrics of organizational sustainability that can be readily understood by all stakeholders and the general public.
SUST 520
Data Analysis and Problem Solving for Sustainability
This course provides an introduction to the collection and analysis of data needed to address and ultimately overcome challenges to sustainability. Key topics include: methods to identify specific problems that need to be addressed and how to select the best analytical tools to assess and study those problems. Statistical methods and appropriate software skills will be introduced and discussed.
