The Applied Cybersecurity minor offers students specialized knowledge and skills in cybersecurity, emphasizing practical, operational applications. Develop skills in applied and operational cybersecurity and gain hands-on experience through electives and practical experience via paid, for-credit internships and capstone projects in partnership with industry.

Program Overview

The Applied Cybersecurity minor prepares students for a variety of roles in cybersecurity, enhancing their ability to safeguard information and systems in an increasingly digital world. It will equip you with the essential knowledge and practical skills to protect digital environments.

Gain an understanding of core cybersecurity concepts and principles and learn to identify common threats, vulnerabilities, and attack methods. You will utilize key cybersecurity tools, software, and technologies through hands-on experience while learning how to detect, respond to, and mitigate cybersecurity incidents efficiently.

Students in this minor also explore the principles of cryptography and demonstrate knowledge of cybersecurity policies, standards, and procedures.

Network Security Specialist

A Network Security Specialist protects an organization’s network infrastructure from unauthorized access, attacks, and other security threats. They design, implement, and manage security measures such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and encryption protocols to safeguard data and maintain network integrity.

Compliance Analyst

A Compliance Analyst ensures that an organization adheres to legal and regulatory requirements related to cybersecurity and data protection.
