Through a blend of hands-on learning and practical application, you will gain a strong foundation in computing while customizing your experience to your interests and gaining experience with a final capstone project that challenges you to solve real-world problems.

Program Overview

The Applied Computing minor offers a foundational understanding of programming, computational thinking, and problem-solving approaches. Throughout the program, you will learn essential programming concepts such as variables, loops, conditionals, and algorithms, while also exploring the critical role of software in diverse domains, including AI and data science with an emphasis on ethics in computing.

Hands-on projects utilizing basic programming tools will enable you to apply your knowledge to real-world challenges. Practical applications in fields like data science, cybersecurity, and automation will be examined, culminating in a group-based semester project that applies computing solutions to real-world problems. In the capstone course, you will leverage the skills and concepts learned throughout the program to design, develop, and deploy a comprehensive computing solution, integrating knowledge from various domains.
