With more than 20 years of industry experience spanning healthcare, government, and global technology leadership, CECS Teaching Assistant Professor, Online, Dr. Jimmy Ardiansyah brings real-world insight directly into the classroom.
Before stepping into academia, Jimmy built a career at organizations such as Cigna, UnitedHealth Group, the Tennessee Valley Authority, and IBM. His work experience spans data analytics, grid computing, cloud infrastructure, digital transformation, and leadership roles. After two decades in the field, Ardiansyah felt called to give back.
“After more than twenty years in the workforce, I wanted to contribute back into academics,” he says. “I felt I had a lot to offer based on my professional experience, and I wanted to help prepare students for what’s actually happening in the workforce.”
His approach to online teaching is intentionally interactive. He breaks lectures into small, accessible recordings, hosts regular office hours, and offers multiple live Zoom sessions to discuss material, troubleshoot challenges, and build connections with his students. He also integrates third-party tools like Miro and cutting-edge platforms such as Google AI Studio to help students experiment with prompt engineering, interface design, and application development.
“You have to keep up,” he says. “If you’re asking students to talk about AI tools in an interview, they need to have actually used them. I want them to try the tools, experiment with them, and understand how to apply them so they are adequately prepared. I want them to have all the tools they need to apply for the internships they want and be at the top of the applicant pool. Emerging technology is changing jobs quickly. Students need to be aware of it, prepare for it, and be ready for it.”
For Ardiansyah, that preparation goes beyond technical skills. He encourages creativity, imagination, and social awareness. “Sometimes careers can lack creativity,” he says. “We fall into routine and forget to create. But innovation happens when technical knowledge and human understanding come together. That’s what we do at CECS, and that’s why I’m proud to be a part of this team.”
Dr. Ardiansyah teaches artificial intelligence courses and CECS 101, Design Your Career, Design Your Degree, for CECS.
