Greg Patrick, DSc, is an Associate Professor in the College of Emerging and Collaborative Studies at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. A computer scientist and educator with over three decades of experience bridging academia and industry, his work spans software engineering, distributed systems, information assurance, and the secure application of artificial intelligence.
Dr. Patrick earned his Doctor of Science in Computer Science from The George Washington University with a focus on Software Engineering and Distributed Systems. His research career includes senior Information Assurance work at the U.S. Department of Defense and directorship of an NSA- and DHS-certified Center of Academic Excellence at Norfolk State University, where he led a well-funded research program. He also developed the master’s degree in Information Assurance
His industry experience spans financial services, microservice architecture and cloud systems, healthcare technology, and mobile app development across multiple sectors. Alongside cybersecurity, his teaching portfolio has included data analytics, machine learning, cloud computing, software engineering, and mobile app development at Loyola College of Maryland, Norfolk State, Strayer, the University of Richmond, and UNC Charlotte. From 2011 to 2013 he served as Dean of the School of Computer & Information Sciences at ECPI University, where he led the school through its first successful regional accreditation and developed master’s and bachelor’s degree programs in Cybersecurity and Software Engineering.
His current research interests include secure and ethical agentic AI, AI in education, information assurance, and reliable software engineering.
